I’m incredibly fortunate to have fabulously fun couples and amazingly beautiful weddings to photograph. Liz and O’Neal’s wedding at the Peninsula Club at Lake Norman near Charlotte was certainly no exception to this. Every detail was flawless, and their family and friends definitely knew how to have a good time. Everyone laughed, ate, and danced the night away; and Liz and her father were even serenaded by the groomsmen at one point. What really struck me over and over was how very loved Liz and O’Neal are by everyone who was there. It was a wonderful night and a beautiful wedding. And my favorite thing about photographing at the Peninsula Club? You get to travel by golf cart wherever you go.

Bill contacted me a few months ago because he wanted to surprise his girlfriend with portraits of the two of them with her son. (I can’t think of a better present for those we love.) So we found a warm spring day for the four of us to go play together. We had toys trucks, bubbles, a bit of a picnic, and my personal favorite, singing. I loved getting to know all three of them, and I especially adore Brennan’s wonderful and infectious smile. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a more affectionate little boy, and I hope I get to see all three of them again soon.

Jessica, Brock, and Isabella {NC Family Portraits}

I love getting to know my clients, which is why I limit the number of weddings and portraits I photograph each year. So when a family purchases a “Watch Me Grow” session, where I get to see their new baby three times in their first year, I’m ecstatic. By the time their first birthday rolls around, we’re old friends and they’re smiling as soon as they see me. This is Isabella’s first session since I saw her for newborn portraits, and I can’t believe she’s already six months old! We spent a morning playing by a nearby waterfall and generally having a lovely time. Her smile is amazing, and I just had to include a few images with that tongue, because I saw it quite a bit that day. She is without question one of the sweetest and cutest babies I’ve seen in a while, and I can’t wait until her nine month portraits!

I loved seeing you again, Isabella! I can’t wait until your next portrait session!

Juliana and Jeff {Greensboro Maternity Photography}

Last month, I had the chance to photograph Jeff and Juliana as they prepared for an incredibly important time in their lives: the birth of their first child. It’s always a huge honor to be allowed to document this event. And I was especially happy to be invited into their home to see their beautiful nursery and photograph their portraits there. Afterwards, we headed downtown to a few of their favorite spots. Camilla Mae is due any day now, so I thought I’d share a few of my favorites from our time together.

Jessie, Sam, and Max {Lake Portraits}

In the last few months, I’ve gotten to know Jessie pretty well; but it wasn’t until recently that I got the chance to meet Sam (and Max, their rambunctious Westie). Sam has been deployed overseas, and Jessie and Sam haven’t seen each other for quite a while. They’re planning a wedding in the craziness of buying a house and creating a life with each other, and things are a little hectic for them. In the midst of everything, they wanted to take an evening to create their engagement portraits. I knew they didn’t have a lot of photographs together, so it was especially important to me that they have images that captured the fun and sweetness of their relationship. I loved every minute I spent with them. And Max was an energetic and affectionate bonus.

Sara is one of my beautiful brides from last autumn, and her wedding was an amazing night. But before that day, she and I met at the Arbors in Charlotte for her bridal portraits. She wanted something elegant and a little vintage, but fun. Above all, she wanted portraits that were unique and truly her.

Felice, Mike, Mailee, and Layla {Professional Pet Photography}

Felice and Mike asked me to come to their home last autumn to photograph their energetic family of four. They wanted to always remember their two furry children just as they are now, full of happiness and ready to run. So they asked me to capture a normal afternoon in their back yard without too many posed portraits. This is just about my favorite way to spend a day – hanging out with fun people and friendly dogs, taking photos as the sun slips behind the horizon. But I just couldn’t resist taking a few of Mike and Felice by themselves. They’re too sweet together to miss the opportunity.

Kelly and Chris {Hilton Head Wedding Photography}

I love heading to new locations for weddings and portraits, and I was especially excited for Kelly and Chris’ engagement session in Hilton Head, SC last month. Not only is it an amazingly beautiful location, but Chris and his family have had a condo there for generations. It always means so much more when my couples choose to go somewhere that’s important to them. Plus, they often know quirky, cool little spots, like these fabulous ruins that were tucked away into the forest. I never would have known they existed if Chris hadn’t pointed them out. But even with the great location and amazing light, what had me so excited about this portrait session was getting to spend the weekend with Kelly and Chris. As soon as I met them, I knew that I would really enjoy hanging out with them. And I loved every minute of our time on the island.

Thank you both so much for inviting me to spend the weekend with you. I had a fantastic time!

Sara and Zach {Pinebrook Country Club}

I love the story of Sara and Zach. They’ve known each other since high school, and have been together for almost all of that time. Through the best and worst times, they’ve had each other. I think what I enjoyed most about their wedding was the slideshow of their relationship in photographs (to which Sara sang beautifully). It was amazing seeing the two of them share so much of their lives, and wonderful to think that they still have so much further to go together. That is a fabulous love story.

Fiona and Eric {Charlotte Wedding Photography}

Fiona and Eric’s wedding at Lake Norman in Charlotte was a beautiful, elegant event. And their reception at the Peninsula Club was full of laughter, fun, and yes, the Thriller dance. But what struck me most about the day was how very loved they are by their friends and family. I was incredibly moved by witnessing it, and then again when looking through their images later. I kept seeing in picture after picture the faces of everyone around them, and those faces were just so happy that these two people had found each other. What a wonderful gift to receive on your wedding day! What an honor to be trusted to capture it!
